Who wants to be a billionaire? Or who wants to breathe fresh clean air? The answer to both question is apparently no, especially if a cost is involved. A technology that promises to allow those who invest in it to make a large fortune and also to solve the motor vehicle air pollution and possible traffic congestion problem has been developed. However if you are willing to wait until the major car manufacturers put these new vehicles on the market, then you could be waiting another ten to twenty years, or perhaps forever. The simple reason for this, is that this technology is too good. All the major car makers have produced working models of electric vehicles with either hybrid motor or fuel cell power systems, and they have proved to be two to three times more efficient, while producing only five percent of the emission that present vehicles do. The problem is that they can cost three or four times that of a conventional motor vehicle to manufacture, purchase and service. The worst example of these exorbitant costs is the Toyota Prius, which Toyota have now revealed costs over $40 000 U.S. to produce, and, judging by the extremely complex technology, at least three times the service costs of a normal vehicle, but the Prius will most probably not go on the market outside Japan. The other problem is that most of the major designs use alternating current (A.C) and not Direct Current (D.C). A.C is potentially very dangerous to human health, as all blood has iron particles, thus blood cells can be damaged by high intensity Alternating currents. Rats and Humans subjected to A.C electricity under controlled laboratory conditions have experienced this effect, as well as a higher than average occurrence of cancer. Direct Current does not have these effects on health. Also, the Toyota Prius and other designs use 220 volts, which is also a danger. Our company, Doring Industries, has developed a very simple electric vehicle design that can actually be produced at ten to twenty per cent less than a conventional vehicle. It is also only 100 volts D.C maximum, and thus is not dangerous. Major improvements have been made to the motor design, which is almost twice as efficient, yet half the weight and size of other systems. The differential drive is infinitely variable and costs only about twenty per cent of an automatic gear box, and is only half the size and weight. Our new electro magnetic method of speed and power control costs only ten per cent the cost of electronic controls. This means that we can produce electric vehicles using off the shelf components for twenty per cent less than a conventional vehicle, and that will incur only half the maintenance costs of the majority of conventional vehicles. For example, all braking in this system is done electromagnetically, which results in stopping distances much less than that of conventional brakes, and with no wear. Also, ten to twenty per cent of energy can be recovered. With regenerative braking, conventional brakes are only used for emergencies or parking. Electric vehicles also have much greater traction or pulling power. If the new CSIRO twenty two per cent efficient solar panels are fitted to the roof of a van or taxi, then it is possible that the first twenty to thirty kilometres of every trip could be provided by sunlight. Even if powered by a hybrid power source of petrol, diesel, gas or turbine engines, which only need to be twenty per cent capacity of a conventional engine, fuel efficiencies of up to three times that of a conventional vehicle can be achieved. Already fuel efficiencies of two hundred and fifty per cent are being achieved. So you can see why the major car and oil companies are not enthusiastic about this new technology, or at least why they will not be in the immediate future. However you would think that an enterprising group of investors would see the potential of this project. Even if it was only to get it into limited production and then sell out to any of the major companies, who would then most likely put it in moth balls until fossil fuels were depleted or air pollution became totally intolerable. Both of these scenarios may be realised within twenty to thirty years from now. But apparently such a group of enterprising investors does not exist, as all venture capitalists and investors that I have contacted, have replied that they are only investing in the information technology and biotechnology industries. Yet the motor vehicle industry is many times bigger then both of these combined. Even if one were selling to just one per cent of the motor vehicle market, profits would be in the range of billions of dollars. And remember that this entire project can be built from off the shelf components. General motors spent thirty million dollars with the CSIRO and other corporations to produce the Ecomodore hybrid electric vehicle, and although they claimed it was a success, you will not be able to buy one as they have announced that it will not be produced. I am hoping that you may be able to give some publicity to this project, as there may be an investor or syndicate out there that I have not been able to contact. This project is listed on the Bendigo Stock Exchange, and one of my partners has drawn up a full business plan, and a technical plan is also available. A general outline can be obtained from our website (URL: www.doringindustries.com ). Sixty thousand minumin to five hundred thousand dollars seed capital is required. If we cannot find any Australian investors, then an overseas one will suffice, as I would rather see this project developed overseas instead of nowhere. Yours Robert Doring P.O. PART 2 CITY AIR POLLUTION & TRAFFIC CONGESTION The Problem has been solved, do we have the will to embrace it. In all the Major Cities of the World including Australia traffic caused Air Pollution and congestion is a major problem, or at least one would think so. The only answers so far provided by the Car Companies and Oil Companies have been more complex. Engine Management systems; lead free petrol and exhaust catalytic converters. What the public is not being told is that this has obviously not solved the problem, because even though engines are now more efficient they can never be more than 40% efficient. Exhaust Catalysts do not operate until they reach a working temperature of 300c and a build up of impurities from unleaded fuel such as Benzine, Toluene, Hydrocarbon and Xylene or excessive heat will burn the Catalytic converter out. This converter may fail within a week of installation due to faulty spark plugs, ignition leads or a poorly tuned engine. As they are only designed to try and burn the impurities after they leave the engine they only decrease the overall efficiency of the engine. There is at present no serious policy to roadside test vehicles and most mechanics do not test them or even want to know about them. Even if the air pollution problem were solved there would still exist a traffic congestion problem. People do not want to use Public Transport, as it is not convenient and only follows a set route and is grossly inefficient as often only 6 or less passengers are in a large Diesel Bus spewing out carcinogenic fumes, and taxis are too expensive. The simple technological solution to both these problems has been solved and it has been done in Australia. A radical breakthrough in Electric Motor and drive systems has been developed and even with the presently available Hybrid power technology this will produce a vehicle which is at least twice as efficient as present Petrol or Diesel vehicles and will only emit less than 10% of present exhaust emission levels. If additional exhaust water scrubber or fuel catalytic technology is added then these emission levels could be reduced to less than 5% of present levels. This motor and drive technology solves all the present problems of current electric vehicles presently developed by the major car companies. It solves the problem of overloading and over-speeding the motors. It is almost twice as efficient, smaller and most important is very simple to produce at half the cost of current systems. In fact it is possible to produce a fully working small electric vehicle for no more or even slightly less than a standard petrol vehicle. Currently produced electric vehicles cost more than twice as much to produce. The Toyota Prius Car costs $40,000 to produce and even though it is more efficient it does not perform as well as a $20,000 standard petrol car. By producing these new hybrid Electric Vans in the form of a small 4 or 5 passenger Taxi, as used in China, it would mean that they could pick up any passenger or passengers at any point and take them to any place, silently and almost pollution free. No one would need to bring a car into the City and also large Buses and gas powered Taxis would not be needed. Even converting to Gas has not solved the problem. However, using a new Ceramic Turbine recently developed by Mitsubishi and running on compressed natural gas to run an alternator to power this vehicle and charge the smaller lightweight batteries, an unlimited range and efficiencies of up to 80% and almost no exhaust emissions can be achieved. However, when the Ballard Fuel Cells are available at an affordable cost in 3 to 5 years, the efficiency and performance will rise even higher and it will produce virtually no emissions. It is predicted that Hydrogen powered fuel cell Electric Cars will actually out perform standard cars in acceleration and braking and top speeds will be the same or even higher. Mercedes Benz have also solved the problem of storing Liquid Hydrogen using metal Hydride pellets in the gas cylinders and Aust. C.S.I.R.O. technology LEADS the World in producing Photo Voltaic Cells at over 20% efficiency. This means that fuel cell Hydrogen can be produced from sunlight and water, obviously not popular with the Oil Companies. As Electric Vehicles have already proved to be 2 to 3 times more reliable with only one third the maintenance cost then this may not be popular with The Car Companies. This may be the reason why they have not produced an affordable Electric Car. The question is are Australians interested in solving these problems, especially those involved in the Environmental Groups. Our Company Doring Industries have developed the unique DC Motor and Differential Drive System and Controls for this Electric Van. A Melbourne Company, Aust. Corporate Research has drawn up a full business plan for this project and is presently negotiating with Aust. Defence Industries, who may, or may not provide the $500,000 to fully develop this project to the manufacturing stage. If a deal cannot be arranged, then we will have to look elsewhere. I am hoping that the vehicles can at least be developed in Australia, but I would rather see it produced somewhere than nowhere. If Australians are genuinely interested in solving these problems there is now no excuse for not doing so, as the Technology is fully developed, so don't complain about the problems if you are not willing to do anything about it. Both the Ford and I.V.E.C.O. ( Fiat & International ) companies have given us a written commitment that they will consider purchasing this technology if we can produce a fully developed, patent protected, ready to manufacture model. We have spent over $80,000 developing the proto-types to prove the concept works. Our company was the first Company in the World, 30 years ago to develop and prove the concept of Low Mass iron technology DC Motors that allow motors to operate in the highest magnetic flux density for 90% of their operating range. This doubles the range of battery powered vehicles. Our later development of a Differential Drive System allows these more efficient motors to be used in a practical road vehicle and overcomes all the problems of current AC or DC direct Drive Systems. The new recently developed Hybrid or Fuel Cell Technology now allows a practical road vehicle with unlimited range to be produced, certainly one to meet normal city driving, which does not require speeds more than 80 kph. Full-size high efficiency Solar Cells on the roof would also increase efficiency and lower running costs to such a low level that Govt. subsidies could make up the difference to allow free or very low cost fares. At present the sum of $500,000 is the only obstacle stalling this project. This amount would be only a fraction of what most of our business Billionaires would lose any night at the Casino or what Australians would spend on gambling each hour. If Australians of any class or even the Environmental Groups are not even willing to even investigate this project, let alone take a punt on it, then all I can say is to quote an American Indian Chief, "You will be condemned to suffocate in your own waste". The question we should ask ourselves is not what it will cost to develop this project, but what it will cost if we don't. Yours, B. Doring
